Capitalization Rules in Writing
- Use proper spelling and capitalization in company names.
- Always capitalize company names at the beginning of a sentence.
- Capitalize days, months, holidays, names of companies, institutions, stores, businesses, teams, political parties.
- Capitalize the first element in a hyphenated compound.
- Capitalize both elements of spelled-out numbers/fractions.
- Do not capitalize articles, conjunctions, prepositions in a title.
- Capitalize seasons when used as a proper noun or in a title.
- Capitalize book and blog titles and headings.
Capitalization in Business
- Purchase of buildings/equipment or new building construction is also capitalized.
- Include closing costs and costs to prepare capitalized assets for use.
- If land and buildings are purchased together, capitalize.
- Funding a business to cover startup expenses is capitalization.
- Capitalize words like one, it, its, him, own in a title.
