Legal Implications of Paintball Gun Use
In most states, the general laws about assault and battery apply to shooting someone with a paintball gun without their consent. In Florida and New Jersey, it is illegal. In Illinois, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island, there are laws about the sale and possession of paintball guns by minors.
Blank guns intended to fire blank ammunition cannot be altered to accept real ammunition; this is illegal. Carrying them in public places may be illegal. Federal law prohibits firearms in federal buildings. Texas requires BB guns and air guns to have orange tips.
Age Restrictions and Self Defense
Most paintball facilities require players to be at least 10 years old. Using force for self-protection has the goal of stopping the threat. Paintball markers cannot exceed a range of around 100 feet. For protection, firearms may be better than paintball guns.
Consequences of Misuse
Trespassing would be a misdemeanor; shooting someone could be a felony. The response should be equal to the crime.
