Overview of ACSM, NSCA, and NASM Exams

To qualify for ACSM personal training certification, called ACSM’s general CPT certification, you need CPR/AED certification. The exam has 150 questions over two and a half hours. You must be at least 18 years old.
The ACSM-EP exam lasts 210 minutes with 140 items; 125 scored and 15 not scored. The pass rate is 66% for the ACSM Certified Personal Trainer exam. Study Domains II and III first, followed by I and IV.
The NSCA CSCS exam has a 63% pass rate. Use a CSCS study guide and practice exam. ACSM certification lasts three years. Then recertify or retake the exam. NASM provides better exam study materials than ACSM.
ACSM Exam Details
You cannot bring materials into the ACSM exam. To pass, meet the 550 scaled score standard. ACSM exams can be taken online with Pearson VUE’s OnVUE program. Exam costs are $279 for ACSM members.
ACSM EP-C Certification Information
The ACSM EP-C certification covers many exercise science topics. It proves knowledge to create safe, effective programs. The NSCA CSCS exam is likely the most difficult fitness certification.
