Frequency and Health
Never tan more than once a day. Retain your desired color by tanning 1-3 times a week, depending on the level of the bed. Tanning every day damages your skin’s DNA. Skin cells produce melanin only every other day. Frequent sunbathing exposes you to less radiation, which is better for health.
Tanning Process for Light-skinned Individuals
If you’re light-skinned, 10 to 30 minutes in the sun can tan you. Raise your arms to tan them. Switch sides every 15-30 minutes. When you feel drowsy, get out of the sun.
Effective Tanning Tips
- Use SPF 30 sunscreen to tan faster.
- Change positions frequently.
- Wait at least 48 hours between tanning sessions to let your tan fully develop.
- To maintain a tan, two tanning sessions a week should suffice.
- For the best results, lay in the sun for at least 20 minutes on your back or stomach.
- Make sure you wear sun-permeable clothing.
Post-Tanning Advice
Don’t shower right after tanning, as it can cause uneven streaking. Wait at least 3-4 hours before showering after a spray tan. If you tan too much, your skin will start stinging. Stop tanning immediately if this happens. Daily UV exposure damages skin.
