In Dungeons and Dragons, the lizard people are called lizardfolk. They are reptilian humanoids known as Kobolds too. Lizardfolks hunt for survival and can be dangerous if provoked, but they aren’t inherently evil, just savage. Despite being called lizards, their physical shape relates to iguanas and dragons. Lizardfolk view emotions differently than warm-blooded creatures, describing situations instead of experiencing feelings.
The lizardfolk were detailed in Dragon #335 (September 2005), in the "Ecology of the Lizardfolk". Lizardfolk were monsters before becoming a playable race, known for their primal instincts, scaly skin, and connection to nature. They have a unique culture centered around survival and communal living. Lizardfolk are often described as cold-blooded creatures with an objective to survive, fight, and breed, valuing fairness and neutrality.
Lizardfolk worship Semuanya, a lesser deity concerned with the survival of the species. Tribal clerics lead worship of Semuanya, and the lizardfolk have burial ceremonies where they consume their dead to help the tribe thrive. Despite their primitive living conditions, lizardfolk have a rich history in Dungeons & Dragons lore, dating back to Robert E. Howard’s novels.
