Minimum Age for Riding Motorcycles in India
In India, the minimum age to ride any motorbike or scooter is 18 years. Non-motor and gearless bikes can be ridden by youngsters between 16-18 years old. To get a motorcycle (M) endorsement, passing the DPS’ motorcycle knowledge exam or completing a motorcycle safety course is necessary. Applicants must be at least 16 years old to apply for a motorcycle license, and if under 18, must have held an instruction permit for a minimum of 6 months with parental consent for the license.
Applying for a Learner’s Licence
Before obtaining a permanent driving licence, applying for a learner’s licence is mandatory. This allows you to begin riding a two-wheeler under an adult’s supervision with a permanent licence. The MoRTH’s Sarathi website allows you to fill and submit forms online and schedule your driving test at the RTO office.
