Responsibilities of Pyrotechnicians
Pyrotechnicians are responsible for the safe storage, handling, and functioning of pyrotechnics and pyrotechnic devices. Certification is becoming common in many countries and regions. Licensing or certification is often required for individuals involved with pyrotechnics.
Types of Pyrotechnicians
There are two main types of pyrotechnicians: fireworks and special effects. Fireworks pyrotechnicians create displays at theme parks, fairs, and special events. They undergo extensive training and gain necessary experience for their job.
Qualifications and Training
To become a pyrotechnician, certain personal characteristics, field experience, and education are required. Tasks include manufacturing, transporting, setting up, and breaking down firework displays. Training covers principles and safety, often through one to three years of apprenticeship. Licensing requires evidence of participation as a head operator.
