Understanding Tint Darkness
A 5% tint means only 5% of light passes through the window film. This is very dark compared to higher percentages. It is difficult to see when driving with 5% tint if not used to it. But some use it comfortably, likely because they are accustomed to the view.
The lower the percentage, the darker the window film. A 5% film lets through 5% of light. A 70% film lets through 70% of light and is light.
Features of 5% Tint
Tint percentages show visible light transmission: how much light passes through film into the car. So lower percentages make darker tints. A 5% tint blocks 95% of light. In sunlight, it is hard to see through. It reduces glare and eye fatigue when driving.
At night, 5% tint limits visibility, even with bright lights. It provides privacy and sun protection. From inside, 5% tint makes a dark environment.
Comparing Tint Darkness Levels
Is 5% dark enough? A 20% tint deters snoopers but you can see through up close. New vehicles often have 15-20% factory tint. A 5% tint makes windows look almost pitch black. It offers some UV protection, but 35% is best. The decision depends on your needs.
