Open gym in CrossFit generally refers to a time when members can come in and work out on their own, without attending a class. This time is usually unstructured, and people can use it to do whatever type of workout they want.
CFT and Other CrossFit Abbreviations
CrossFit has its own lingo and abbreviations that may seem foreign to some, but it makes it easier for coaches to write programming without having to write everything out all of the time.
Abbreviations:
- AMRAP: As Many reps/Rounds as Possible
- BW: Body Weight
- RX: As prescribed in the work out
- DU: Double Under
- PR: Personal Record
The numbers used during CrossFit training indicate different programs and movements:
- 16.4 workout – Increase reps during 13 minutes. 55 reps for each movement: handstand push-ups, rowing, wall balls, deadlifts. Substitute moves to make it more beginner friendly.
- CFT – CrossFit Total – 1RM of Bench Press, Deadlift, Back squat.
- EMOM – Every Minute on the Minute
- WOD – Workout of the Day
