Introduction to KOA
KOA stands for Kampgrounds of America. It is a franchise of privately owned campgrounds across the United States and Canada. Founded in 1962 in Billings, Montana by businessmen Dave Drum, John Wallace and two partners, KOA has over 500 locations and is the world’s largest system of privately owned campgrounds.
The first KOA campsites were located on Drum’s property north of the Yellowstone River, known as Billings Campground. Drum got the idea while walking his land along the Yellowstone River and seeing travelers heading to the Seattle World’s Fair.
Today, KOA offers amenities like Wi-Fi, cable TV, swimming pools and playgrounds. KOA aims to provide a unique blend of nature and comfort. With opportunities for outdoor activities like hiking, fishing and more, you can also expect modern conveniences.
