Understanding Bus Services
The number display in the lower left side of the windshield is a ‘run number‘. Letters after the number may include:
- X – an express bus that does not pick up or drop off passengers for a section of its route.
Taking the Ireland Bus (Bus Eireann) is an efficient and economical way to get from one city to another. Be aware that there are no toilets on board.
Can you eat on Bus Eireann?… Alternatively, you can bus, which costs €4 – €6 and takes 1h 31m.
If FT-P is written on the card the holder is personally entitled to free travel. If FT+S is written on the card the holder can travel with their spouse, partner or cohabitant.
Can I use my Irish Free Travel Pass in Europe?
A bus lane is a lane restricted to buses on certain days and times, and generally used to speed up public transport that would be otherwise held up by traffic congestion. Bus lanes are shown by road markings and signs that indicate which (if any) other vehicles are permitted to use the bus lane.
In general, it means anything that is moving inwards or is incoming from another direction. This is important to understand because this idea can easily be applied to marketing, like potential customers that are moving inwards towards a platform or product.
School and college journeys are integrated into our current timetables. School journeys are indicated with the code ‘Sch’ and college journeys with ‘Coll’. Peak time pre-paid buses are identified by the letter ‘P’, in front of the route number on the bus destination board.
Prefixes serve a purpose: P for Peckham for routes P4, P5, and P13; E for Ealing in series E1 to E11.
Bus Routes and Endorsements
Currently, London has three purely electric bus routes: the 312 in Croydon, the 507 (between Victoria and Waterloo), and the 521 (from Waterloo to London Bridge). The letters used at bus stops, such as:
- a: Only disembarking passengers.
- p: Only embarking/boarding passengers.
Passenger "P" endorsements are required for drivers operating vehicles that can carry at least 16 passengers (including the driver). Allows the customer to operate commercial motor vehicles with airbrakes. The A Endorsement is implied in the absence of an L Restriction, which is a combination of the N Endorsement and the H Endorsement.
