Purpose and Requirements

Purpose: Form BT-1 is an application used when registering with the Indiana Department of Revenue for Sales Tax, Withholding Tax, Out-of-State Use Tax, Food and Beverage Tax, County Innkeepers Tax, Tire Fee, and Motor Vehicle Rental Excise Tax, or a combination of these taxes.

Information required for the online BT-1 application:

  • Email address: This is either for the person submitting the application or the address where the application registration information (including the Document Locator Number) should be sent.
  • Federal ID Number (FID/EIN): An FID is needed to complete the application.

We last updated Indiana Form BT-1 in January 2023 from the Indiana Department of Revenue for income earned in tax year 2022, with tax returns due in April 2023.

Annual Filing and LLC Formation

You can obtain your Indiana business tax ID via the Indiana Department of Revenue’s INtax website by submitting a Form BT-1. To form an LLC in Indiana, file your Articles of Organization with the Indiana Secretary of State along with the $100 filing fee.
