A coffee roaster is a specialized machine designed to roast green coffee beans through controlled heating. This process develops flavors and aromas within the beans to produce the coffee we drink. A coffee roaster can also refer to the person or business that roasts coffee beans.
Requirements to Become a Coffee Roaster
To pursue a career as a coffee roaster, you need training on how to roast, flavor, and grind coffee beans. You may find a coffee roaster trainee position with a local coffee company or earn coffee roasting qualifications through courses or certificate programs.
The Role of a Master Coffee Roaster
A master coffee roaster has extensive experience in coffee roasting. This professional controls the roasting process that refines green coffee beans. Mastering both coffee roasting theory and technique develops the talents to become an expert. However, there is no universally recognized certification for master coffee roasters.
