Domain Masking
Domain masking, also known as URL masking or URL forwarding, is a technique that allows website owners to hide the actual URL of a webpage and display a different URL in the browser’s address bar. When a user visits a website with domain masking, they see the masked domain in the address bar, giving the impression that they are on a different website.
In reality, the content displayed is from the actual website, but the original URL remains hidden. Domain masking serves purposes like branding and consistency.
Domain masking is usually achieved through techniques like frame or iframe embedding, where the content of the masked domain is loaded within a frame on the masking domain.
Difference between Forwarding and Masking
Differences between Domain Masking and Domain Forwarding. Domain forwarding redirects users to a new domain or website with straightforward responses to why they are being turned. But domain masking hides the URL of the new site or part from the users.
Domain forwarding is an important tool to redirect visitors from one website address to another. Forwarding with masking allows the browser address bar to keep the domain name that was used. Forwarding as 301/redirect shows the change in the browser address bar with the forwarded-to site’s address.
The 302 redirect sends HTTP redirects with a status code "302 Found" to website visitors, directing them to a temporary page while the website is being built or maintained.
Because URL masking has generally been used for malicious activity, we have decided not to support it at EasyRedir. We’ve also put together a few alternatives to URL masking that might be the right solution for you.
