Understanding Tail Numbers
A tail number is an identification code painted on an aircraft’s tail. It has two to six alphanumeric characters, including letters and numbers. These tail numbers identify specific airplanes. The first letters indicate the airplane’s country. For example, "N" is for United States planes. They also help track private and charter planes.
Tracking Scheduled Flights
Our flight tracking system focuses more on scheduled airline flights. It is important to note that airlines may substitute different planes for the originally scheduled flights.
Finding a Tail Number
To find a tail number, look for the alphanumeric code on the aircraft’s tail. Tail numbers are two to six characters long and show both the aircraft’s country of origin and help in tracking.
