What is included in tax-free Tennessee?
Tennessee’s sales tax holiday on clothing, school supplies, and computers is the last full weekend in July. In 2022, it began at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, July 29, and ended at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, July 31. Items sold together, such as shoes, cannot be split up to stay beneath the $100 maximum.
Clothing priced $100 or less per item is exempt, including shirts, pants, jackets, socks, shoes, and dresses. School supplies priced $100 or less per item are exempt, including binders, books, backpacks, crayons, pens, pencils, and more. Computers priced $1,500 or less per item are exempt, including laptops, desktops, and tablets.
Food, food ingredients, and prepared foods are exempt from sales tax during the first week of August. This includes sales by restaurants, food trucks, caterers, and grocery stores.
