The truck that Gerard Butler drives in Gamer is a Chevy K-10 Cheyenne, owned by Terry Gibson, the actor who played Riggs in "Lethal Weapon 2". Jed’s Ford F-150 was actually a 1977 Chevrolet K-10 Cheyenne Stepside that made several appearances in the movie. Despite its on-screen presence, the Gamer truck was more underwhelming in reality than it appeared in the trailer.
Kable, the protagonist, combats prisoners in an aggressive virtual reality game named "Slayers". To online gamers, Kable is merely a digital avatar, yet he is instrumental to a resistance group’s mission to dismantle the tyranny of the game’s creator. The filming, which spanned 53 days, took place primarily in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The storyline is set in a dystopian future, specifically in the year 2034.
The directors of the film, not known for being avid gamers, had initially intended to produce Gamer using 3D technology. However, financial constraints necessitated a change in plans, leading to a 2D shoot with a subsequent 3D conversion for the home video release. For the intense battle scenes, the production team erected and destroyed faux structures within the cityscape of downtown Albuquerque.
