Good Humor Legacy
Almost 100 years ago, Good Humor® started a delicious revolution with the first ice cream on a stick and then the original ice cream truck. Good Humor reworked the old ice cream jingle “Turkey in the Straw,” removing its racist roots.
Harry B. Burt developed the ice-cream novelty known as the Good Humor bar and revolutionized ice cream product manufacturing. Good Humor-Breyers, now part of Unilever, is a major producer of branded ice cream and frozen novelties.
Musical Evolution
In 1989, Good Humor acquired the rights to the Popsicle. The album Good Humor by Saint Etienne showcased a broad range of quality music and won acclaim.
Ice Cream Truck Songs through History
What was the old Good Humor jingle? It was a reformatted version of the classic ice cream jingle "Turkey in the Straw". The original ice cream truck jingle, “Nigger Love a Watermelon,” has a dark history of racism. Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA collaborated with Good Humor to replace this racist tune with a modern one.
You can hear it blocks away – the endless loop of an ice cream truck’s catchy tune. The music draws kids on hot summer days as the colorful truck trolls slowly, stopping to sell treats. The enduring popularity of ice cream truck songs continues captivating all ages, making them integral to culture.
