Tracking Montana Tax Refund
To track your Montana tax refund, use the "Where’s My Refund?" online search tool on the Montana website. Your Montana refund status will be available after one week for e-filers and 12 weeks for paper filers. You will need to input your Social Security Number, the tax year, and your expected tax refund amount.

To check the status of your Montana refund online, go to MTRevenue.gov/WheresMyRefund or MTRevenue.gov/taxes/individual-income-tax/individual-refunds/. To view status information, you will be prompted to enter your filing status, Social Security number, and expected refund amount.
If you don’t have access to a computer or Wi-Fi, call 406-444-6900 to obtain help with your Montana refund status. Paper checks will be mailed to first-time Montana filers and filers who haven’t filed in over three years. Refunds may be delayed up to 90 days to verify information and prevent fraud.
