Coffee is cultivated in over 60 countries globally yet Indian coffee is a favourite drink domestically and overseas. To satisfy this demand, 70% of Indian coffee is exported especially Robusta and Arabica beans which have fabulous blending properties.
Key Importers of Indian Coffee
- USA
- Italy
- Germany
- Japan
- United Kingdom
However, imports by Italy and Turkey have declined as they prefer cheaper African coffee in blends and are diversifying import sources, respectively.
Cultivation and Export Potential
Coffee is grown substantially in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Assam, and Manipur then sold internationally by exporters. With some value addition and government assistance, Indian coffee exports could develop a niche in the global coffee market.
