- Americans over age 55 eat more ice cream per capita than any other age group. The average American eats ice cream at home 41 times per year. California is the state that likes ice cream the most. New Zealand consumes the most ice cream per capita. The UK’s top 10 ice cream spots include Nardini’s and Largs. Almost three in five UK men aged 16-24 typically eat ice cream once a week or more in the spring and summer months. Per capita ice cream sales in Belgium were highest in Europe at roughly 16.16 kilograms.
Ice Cream Preferences and Sales
- While some ice cream sellers may offer fancy flavors, consumers still prefer the classics. A report found 23 percent of Americans like vanilla ice cream and 23 percent like chocolate. Ice cream sales in the United States have declined since 2006. The most popular U.S. flavor is chocolate. Ice cream is loved by families, teens and adults.
Gender Differences in Ice Cream Consumption
- The UK and US populations are fairly evenly split between Males and Females, but Females consume more Impulse Ice Cream than Males. Female consumption of Ice Cream is higher by approximately 15% in all categories. Less than one in three respondents are interested in fruit-flavored ice cream. Marketers should target campaigns at men to increase male consumption and further increase female consumption.
