Espresso vs Coffee
Espresso uses finer grind coffee beans and more grounds than regular coffee, creating an intense flavor. It’s roasted and served differently, giving espresso a stronger, more acidic taste than coffee. Espresso originates from the Italian word "exprimere" meaning "to press out" referring to the high pressure used to extract the coffee.
Despite coming from the same beans, there are differences between coffee and espresso. Espresso is considered healthier since it doesn’t use filters, allowing oils and minerals to pass to your cup. Black coffee can have added sugars and cream, while espresso is consumed plain, giving you a caffeine boost without compromising health. Both drinks are unlikely to cause severe issues in moderation.

Coffee’s longer brewing infuses more flavor for a richer, deeper taste than espresso. Espresso’s short process extracts subtle flavors that can be enjoyed in shots or drinks. So coffee offers bold richness and espresso provides subtle sweetness.
Caffeine Levels
Espresso contains less caffeine than coffee, with 63 milligrams versus 95 milligrams respectively per one ounce. But concentration depends on bean type – robusta has almost double the caffeine of arabica. The brewing method also affects caffeine levels.
While many people prefer one or the other, both coffee and espresso have health advantages. Espresso provides more caffeine for energy, but coffee offers more varied flavors. Personal preference, time, equipment access, and culture often dictate choices between these brews.
