Who Invented Zoos? History of Zoos

The first zoo was established in 1500 B.C. by Queen Hatshepsut in Egypt. She collected animals from Africa. Later, Emperor Wen Wang of China built a zoo to display his power. It was named Garden of Intelligence.

Purpose and Conservation

The purpose shifted towards conservation and education in the 19th century. Endangered species protection became significant.

Modern Zoos

The first modern zoo opened in Paris, France in 1793. Zoos bring people closer to nature and provide research opportunities. It’s hard to determine the first zoo since multiple early zoos existed.
