What started as an accident by an 11-year old Frank Epperson in 1905, when he left a mixing powder outside, led to the invention of the popsicle. In 1925, he sold the rights to Joe Lowe Company who later sold it to Unilever. The original name "Eppsicle" was changed to "Popsicle" by his children.
Popsicle has over 30 flavors including orange, cherry and grape. New flavors include Tootsie Pops and Mystery Middles. Most popsicles contain corn syrup, sugar, food dye and flavors.
Unilever is the current owner of the Popsicle brand, having expanded the original fruity flavors.
