New Ice Cream Truck Jingle by Good Humor
Good Humor is creating a new ice cream truck jingle to replace “Turkey in the Straw.” The old jingle has a racist history, originating from minstrel shows that used offensive stereotypes about African Americans. Good Humor has partnered with Wu-Tang Clan founder RZA to make an inclusive new jingle. RZA says the new jingle incorporates all communities. Good Humor will offer the new jingle for free to all ice cream truck drivers nationwide and is calling on them to stop playing "Turkey in the Straw."
Good Humor History and Treats
Good Humor started the first ice cream truck in the 1920s and sold franchises in the 1930s. Though Good Humor sold its fleet in the 1970s, independent contractors still sell Good Humor bars and other novelties from trucks today. The brand has iconic treats like ice cream sandwiches and strawberry shortcake bars.
Impact of Jingles on Brands
Jingles can create positive associations and emotional connections with brands. State Farm’s “Like a Good Neighbor” and Nationwide’s “Nationwide is on Your Side” are examples of memorable, effective jingles that have benefited those companies.
