The European Parliament approved a law to ban new gas and diesel car sales in the EU by 2035. This transitions them to electric vehicles to cut emissions and improve air quality. So no new fossil fuel cars can be sold in the 27-country bloc then.
Transition to Electric Vehicles
For example, electric cars are becoming more common, and many of them do not rely on gasoline at all. Additionally, many buildings are making the switch to renewable heating sources, such as geothermal or solar thermal. However, the transition away from gas is not going to happen overnight.
Emission Reduction Targets
Cars and vans sold from 2030 must meet 55 percent and 50 percent lower emissions, respectively, versus 2021.
Future of Gasoline Cars
You will still be able to drive gas cars after 2035. Many gas stations may close as electric cars become the norm.
By 2035, carmakers must cut CO2 emissions from new cars by 100 percent.
Gasoline and diesel burning creates harmful chemicals. Vehicles also emit carbon dioxide, the greenhouse gas. Electricity can power cars instead of fossil fuels.
Production and sales of new gas cars will likely phase out after 2035. Existing gas cars will shrink as electric cars grow.
