Work comes from the verb work. We can define it as the set of activities carried out by a person in order to achieve a goal, solve problems or produce goods and / or services for humans.
Work gives the possibility of achieving dreams, goals and objectives in life, depending on the person who performs it. At times, it can also serve as a form of expression and dignity, as well as freedom.
Work helps to be able to live and survive, share and develop as a person, as well as in the world of work. It also encourages people to be able to develop social skills, such as cooperation, self-reliance, or humility, in some cases.
In order to carry out a job it is necessary to acquire certain knowledge or experience in some cases. Without it, it would be impossible to develop it, since it is necessary to know how to do it in order to do it. For this, schools, institutes, universities and other educational centers are in charge of being able to teach people the necessary knowledge to make this possible.
In the field of economía, work is very important, since it represents one of the 3 factors of production (along with land and capital). Thanks to work, people carry out a set of activities that allows them to obtain a salary for it (the salary is about the price of their work), which results in what the salary is.
Difference between work and employment
They do not have to have synonyms, although depending on how it is developed it may or may not have similar meanings. In the case of work, this does not have to give an economic reward to the worker.
In the case of employment, it is just the opposite, since it is a position earned in your company in which the person who exercises it has earned it for the effort made. In this case, compensation is received for said effort.
Kinds of work
Although all jobs usually have the same meaning, we can differentiate several types of jobs:
- Autonomous work (or also called .). It is exercised by an individual and whose professional activity does not depend on third parties or a company.
- Telecommuting. It is about being able to carry out the profession that you carry out from home or places other than the usual offices of a company. A freelancer, for example, can perform this function, although he can also exercise it in the company's office. ICTs have made it possible to develop this type of work.
- Slave labor. In this type of work, the person is forced to work illegally or under terrible or inhuman conditions. Slave workers are not usually paid for their performance, nor do they have the freedom or rights they deserve ... Obviously, this work is prohibited, although there are some countries that tolerate it.
- Child labor It is the one that is carried out by children and adolescents below the minimum age to be able to work (which will depend on each country).
